When faced with the question of whether it is better to breast feed or use a formula, the opinion of each individual differs. Mothers are of the opinion that it is better to breast feed a child. According to scientists, there is no developmental difference between infants that have been breast fed and infants that have taken the formula.

A comparison between the advantages of breast feeding and the advantages of formula feeds would lead to the conclusion that it is always better to breast feed an infant as mother's milk contains all the necessary antibodies that a baby requires. Although formula feeds have their advantages, mother's milk is always the preferred choice. Mother's milk is a safer bet as the nutritional needs of a child are definitely met at every stage of its development.

Nature is so wonderful, that the composition mother's milk changes as the child develops. With mother's milk the child could decide when it has had sufficient to drink and it comes at the right temperature and is always readily available when the baby is hungry. The advantages with formula milk, is that its composition has been put together by experts who claim that it contains all the necessary nutrients for the growth of a child.

In the event of the mother being ill or the mother not being available the baby could have it s feed. In some instances the mother may not be able to feed the baby though she is willing to due to medical concerns. In the initial stages the mother may not be comfortable or may not have the expertise with which to breast feed a child. She may have to acquire a breast pump or some other accessories.

A nursing bra too would be ideal for nursing mothers. During the first few months it may be more convenient to breast feed a baby, but as the weeks go by and the mother has to attend to other duties as well, it would be sensible to formula feed the child when she is away. In the event of the mother being a smoker or an alcoholic or may not have good personal hygiene and some harmful substances like include microorganisms, nicotine, alcohol and viruses could be passed on to the baby.

Baby Formula takes time to prepare and certain babies find it difficult to digest the same. Using formulas could turn out to be a costly affair as beside buying the formula, bottles, sterilizers, etc have to be bought in order for it to be prepared hygienically. Scientific research proves that breast fed babies are healthier and do not contact respiratory diseases, allergies and ear infections easily as mother's milik contains antibodies.

Although breast feeding comes quite naturally to most mothers, and it has a lot of advantages, the choice is best left to the individual. If for some reason she is not able to breast feed the child, it is better to turn to formula feeds, as both formula fed infants and breast fed infants are healthy babies.
