The quickest relief is achieved through a corticosteroids injection at the inflamed site. Once treatment starts, it should only take 12 hours to relieve pain, with complete relief achieved within 48 hours.

Eating your way out of gout.

Part of gout treatment is minding what you eat since certain foods cause gout attacks. Certain food items can worsen flare ups of gout. Organ meats, certain types of fish, yeast, spinach and legumes can all worsen the severity of an attack and must be consumed moderately or avoided. Beware of drinks with too much sugar- because high fructose corn syrup is a cause of gout.

To keep gout attacks at bay, on the other hand, you can also increase your intake of dairy products and carbohydrates. Protein-rich foods have not been shown to either reduce or increase risks for gout attacks so you are safe to consume your meats, albeit always in moderation.

Is it possible to prevent gout?
