Scar removal and stretch mark treatment advice

Stretch marks and scars can cause anguish and distress to those with them and as with all perceived physical imperfections, there are hundreds of supposed quick fixes and cures. But most people find that the most stretch mark creams, oils and gels achieve is softening the skin to give it a smoother feel - most fall far short of the mark when it comes to reducing their appearance dramatically and making a real difference to self-esteem.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has now approved a laser treatment for cosmetic use on stretch marks and scars, and their stamp of approval is proof that this technology is proven to achieve visible results for all patients, in varying degrees. The laser stretch mark treatment should only ever be administered by a trained and experienced professional as the technology itself is powerful. It works by administering fractional pulses of laser light to the affected area, the intensity of which breaks down the scar tissue and stimulates the growth of fresh tissue. This new tissue will match the healthy skin around the scar or stretch mark more closely than the scar tissue did, therefore reducing the appearance of the scar or stretch marks.

It is really important to understand that these treatments are not guaranteed to complete rid the body of the scars or stretch marks being treated but that they designed to markedly reduce the appearance of these. For some people, the results will be dramatic and extremely pleasing, for others the results will be impressive but you may still be able to see feint signs of where the scar or marks once were.

The other thing to remember and understand is that while this treatment is not surgical or invasive in nature, it still involves the use of a powerful piece of technology and as such, when placed in inexperienced hands it can cause damage. This is why you must ensure that you pick a reputable clinic in which to have your treatment and to ensure that the treatment being offered has been approved by the FDA (if you're not sure, ask the clinic for proof before you agree to the treatment).

There is no doubt that having the option to reduce or remove scars and stretch marks is a true luxury for men and women, but as with all medical treatments, it is simply not worth choosing a cheaper but less experienced aesthetic practitioner just to save yourself a few pounds.
