Everyone can have an impact on climate change

Climate change is one of the big issues of the present era and it is something that almost everyone has an opinion on. There are still people who are sceptical that such a thing exists and that global warming is happening at all, but whether these people are right or not is irrelevant when it comes to thinking about how we can change our living and working habits for good of the planet and future generations.

Those people who have genuine concerns about the short-term future of the planet if things are allowed to continue in the same manner have been campaigning for years on recycling, going carbon zero, using public transport and so on. But the rest of us have been slow to react and we often find that discovering what we can do to help, rather than the helping itself, is the time-consuming part.

It is something that consumers and businesses must all get involved with if we are to make any noticeable impact on climate change. Many firms are making bold steps to indicate that they are now behaving in an environmentally friendly way and this is reflected in their marketing campaigns and promotions. This indicates the importance of being seen to be green but also lets the firm explain the big changes they are taking to impact on climate change. This can involve different ways of production, more emphasis on recycling and reducing the amount of travelling that employees and their products should take.

Buying local produce is one way in which a consumer can have a say in slowing down the rate of climate change. The importance of a carbon footprint is important and buying locally produced food is a great way of reducing the miles and flights that some food has to take. There is always going to be a need to import and export food but this should only revolve around food that cannot be grown in these countries. There are many fantastic vegetables grown in the local region but some shops will still ship in vegetables from all around the world.

Providing customer choice is one thing but showing a level of responsibility is another. If companies are not willing to look towards local suppliers for more products, consumers can play a part by refusing to buy these exported products. A company will soon notice when they bring in less money at the till or some products are left to rot on the shelf. This means that consumers can place pressure on firms to act in a more environmentally friendly manner.
