In tough economic times like the ones we're living in now, people are looking at franchise opportunities for sale as a means to make the kind of money they truly desire. Franchise opportunities have been around for a very long time and they are the most successful business model out there today. Franchises provide a proven system that works as long as you stay within the guidelines.

However, franchise opportunities for sale have their place in business today and I would argue that franchises are not for everyone. In this article, I'm going to explain three reasons why franchise opportunity it is not right for you.

1. Control - If you are the kind of entrepreneur who loves to have complete control over every aspect of your business, then a franchise opportunity may not be for you. What I mean by that is franchises usually come with the business plan, the marketing plan and existing relationships with vendors and suppliers already in place. As a franchise owner, you will not have the ability to alter or changed the business plan and you must conform to the guidelines of the marketing plan.

At the end of the day, the franchise company will have final say with any matter regarding the franchise operations. That could include policies and procedures, systems and whatever else the franchise wants to control. If you are okay relinquishing control or maybe having complete control isn't your strong suit, then maybe a franchise might be for you.

2. Creativity - This kind of goes along with the control section we just talked about because you are really not allowed to think outside the box with a franchise opportunity. You might have your own ideas and own methods of doing things, especially with advertising and enhancing or creating new products and services, but unless the franchise gives you the right to go outside the box, you must stay within their guidelines.

Therefore, all creativity and all innovation within the franchise opportunity must be done at the franchise Corporation level. All you can do is just suggest ideas to the upper brass. Once again, if creativity and thinking outside the box is something that you're not good at, then abiding by the franchise rules might be okay for you.

3. Exponential growth - This one is kind of a tricky one for people to understand because franchises historically are way more successful than traditional businesses. However, what the franchise industry will not tell you is that you usually have to own multiple franchise operations in order to make a significant income. With a traditional business, that's not the case. You could make as much money as you truly desire with one business. For example, look at companies like Facebook and Google.

Now I'm not saying all franchises don't have exponential growth but for the most part they don't. So if you are the kind of entrepreneur who's a big thinker and always shoots for the moon, a franchise opportunity may not be for you. On the other hand, if you are less adverse to risk been a franchise opportunity might be right for you.
