Travel Trends 2011

It's cold, it's raining so being able to jet off to warmer climes is a lovely thought!

Especially after so many of us opted, for one reason or another, to stay at home on a fashionable staycation', which for many was a bit damp! Whether that was travelling around the UK or staying at home with the family and enjoying days out, or the new trend of glam-ping' the miserable British summer weather put pay to many of us feeling like we'd really had a holiday.

So a recent ABTA conference declared that many of us will be making up for not getting away and jetting off next year, and the fact that the recession seems to be settling down. And as a result, many travellers are going to be trying out new things, rather than the traditional week on the beach!

In response to the anticipated 2011 rush' many tour operators are offering huge discounts on early bookings. With many marketing messages telling travellers that they'll actually get a better deal by booking early than if they were to hang on and get away on a late availability break.

For instance, BA is offering as much as 40% off their holidays!

Tour operators and Tourist Boards alike are gearing themselves up for recent sporting events, prime time television shows and Hollywood blockbusters to influence travel trends in 2011.

Hotly tipped to capitalise on last year's World Cup is South Africa, after proving the critics wrong and welcoming teams and fans alike with warmth and culture. Press coverage on the country, its heritage, its wildlife and its people are set to make it a firm favourite for travellers.

Following TV chef, Jamie Oliver's prime time TV show American Road Trip' means that ranch holidays continue to be popular, along with travellers choosing less popular and tourist US states.

2011 European City of Culture, Istanbul, will also benefit in increased visitor numbers. What's good for the UK travel market is that this destination can be reached by traditional airlines as well as the cheaper, no frills budget airlines.

Specialist holidays are also said to fair well next year too. Travellers seeking tranquillity and rest, in today's modern and stressful world, are said to be booking Yoga retreats. Whilst the cooks among us are favouring specialist catering holidays in Europe. Other specialist holidays like organised Group Travel, where savings can be made for more far flung, exotic destinations, are also expected to regain popularity next year.

Other anticipated travel trends for next year include troubled, even war torn parts of the Globe. Thailand and Mexico are said to overcome recent bad publicity and return to popularity. Sri Lanka is set to be very popular next year. And believe it or not, Iraq, which is launching a tourist marketing campaign.

With so many different types of holidays becoming popular next year there is one common denominator across all types of holiday makers, and it's the desire to grab a bargain and get the very best deal!
