This beautiful and sacred place is located in the hinterland of Himalayas. It is the first place where river Ganga touched earth for the first time after emerging from Gangotri glacier. This glacier is the 2nd longest glacier of Himalaya after Siachin.

Gangotri Temple:

This 300 year old temple is dedicated to Goddess Ganga which is renovated in the 20th century with 20 feet structure of white granite rock. Based on the mythology it is said that river Ganga touched earth at this place. This is also the place where Pandavas performed the great Deva Yagna' to atone for the deaths of their kinsmen. There is a natural rock Shivalinga, called the Jalamagna Shivalinga which is only visible during winters when water recedes. This Shivlinga is most revered idol of this temple along with the figurines of Goddess Ganga.

Nandanvan Tapovan:

This is a 6 km arduous trekking route along the glacier which gives tourists a chance to see the speckled charm of Himalayan panorama and Gangotri glacier. Across the Gangotri glacier is the Sylvan Tapovan renowned for its speckled natural charm and scenic vistas. From this place one can also go to other beautiful tourist destinations like Vasuki Tal and Kalindikhal.

Gaumukh:

Gaumukh literally means a cow's mouth is one of the popular attraction of Gangotri situated at an altitude of 4200 meters above sea level. It is geographical origin of the river Ganga. At this place Ganga is known as the Bhagirathi. Large number of tourists and devotees come here to take holy dip in the ice-cold water.

Kedar Tal:

This is an enchanting lake situated at an altitude 4425 meters above sea level against the splendid backdrop of mighty Thalaiyasagar peak. It is an enchanting tourist destination which is accessible through a rough mountain trail. This is also a base camp for trekking to surrounding peaks.
