Brief Background
Founded in 1890, University of Central Oklahoma was the first one to impart higher education in the state of Oklahoma. One of the oldest universities in the southwest part of United States, it was given recognition by Environmental Protection Agency as conference champion because it used more green power than any other schools in the lone star conference. Classes were held in 1891 for the first time and the university was established in 1892. The institute achieved college status in 1919 and university status in 1991.
