Adrenal fatigue the signs and treatment

As mentioned in an earlier post, if your adrenal glands aren't working effectively, this could in turn lead to chronic fatigue and what is known in the medical world as adrenal fatigue. This is not just tiredness; this is emotional and physical exhaustion. Cortisol levels are significantly reduced when the adrenal gland isn't working effectively and this could lead to very severe symptoms and fatigue could actually develop into Addison's disease which causes weak muscles, weight loss, low blood pressure and low blood sugar. In rare cases, it can even be fatal.

However, there is no need to panic because luckily only about 1 in 100,000 people develop the disease. But, adrenal fatigue is a lot more common and should be taken just as seriously. Symptoms may be much milder, but they can still be extremely debilitating.

Common symptoms include:

Fatigue especially in the morning and mid-afternoon

A weakened immune system

Increased allergies

Muscle and bone weakness

Depression

Cravings for salty, sugary and fatty foods

Hormonal imbalance

Skin rashes

Autoimmune disorders

Increased PMS symptoms

Low sex drive

Dizziness when getting up from sitting or lying down

Difficulty in handling stress

Poor memory

People who suffer from adrenal fatigue will also find that they are wide awake in the late evening, but by 9pm are exceptionally tired and then get a second wind at about 11pm. This may prevent them from falling asleep until the early hours of the morning. People who suffer will also experience abnormal sugar levels and increased anxiety.

If you find out you are suffering from adrenal fatigue, there are many simple natural steps you can take to recover. However, it can take anywhere from six months to two years (depending on the seriousness of your disorder) to fully recover.

Meditation is a very good way to relax and remove yourself from your stresses for a short period of time. This in turn will allow you to lead a more calming life. Also, be sure that you listen to your body. If you're tired have a nap; if you want a lie in at the weekend, sleep until you feel ready to get up. Be sure to exercise regularly and eat a healthy diet. Avoid caffeine and be sure to eat small meal regularly.

A good way to eat is a small snack every three to four hours and make sure you always eat within the first hour that you are awake. Eat before you actually feel hungry and have a small healthy snack before you go to bed.

You need to address you whole body when you are treating adrenal fatigue and make sure that you pay attention to what it is telling you!ay attention to what it is telling you!
