How to Find Your Sciatica Treatment

Sciatica Test - don't know why you have sciatic pain?

You can find quite a few reasons it is possible to develop sciatica. But usually, this pain happens because of one of these simple things:

1 - piriformis syndrome

2 - disc problems (buldging, slipped, etc)

Knowing why you are in pain means that anyone can choose a treatment that could work for you. If you never know why you are in pain, then your chances for getting out of pain are much slimmer. Even a thing as easy as using heat when you ought to be using ice will turn a frustrating pain in to a brutal one. It is the same with exercises, there are particular things you shouldn't be doing when you have a hurt disc, and if you do them anyway, then you will be in far more pain than you began with.

So what are two simple tests that may help you find your treatment for sciatica?

Don't worry, they are both easy and fast. You can perform them alone in the comfort of your home. Best of all, unlike the medical options you have been looking into, these tests won't cost you anything.

I. The simple Chair Test - grab yourself a nice firm chair (no recliners here, don't cheat)

a) When you are sitting straight in the chair, determine which side you feel the pain on

b) Take the leg on the painful side and then try to straighten your knee so that your leg is parallel to the floor (don't push yourself here, you don't want to increase your pain).

c) If you are not able to do this with out having more pain, it's likely you have sciatica due to a disc problem. You should go to the doctor no less than once before you decide to try any treatment plans. You should know what you really are facing and how severe it is.

II. Another Quick Chair Test - yep, keep that chair right where it is.

You do not have to do these tests at the same time. If the first test was too hard for you, then write down your results and save this test for the next day.

a) Sit in the firm chair

b) Sitting straight, pull your knee towards same side shoulder as the pain is on.

c) Slowly take it away from your shoulder and continue to pull it towards the opposite shoulder

d) If your pain gets worse once you pull your knee to the opposite shoulder, it's likely that you've got piriformis syndrome.

One crucial thing to realize is that it's possible to have both sorts of sciatica at work. If these tests show your pain is both disc related and piriformis related, you should seek a doctor's advice. When you have piriformis syndrome, feel free to try your own methods of treatment based on your research or recommendations. If you have disc related sciatica, talk to your personal doctor before doing anything else. The last thing you want would be to do something to make the pain worse or further upset the disc.
