Plus, as a reward for your journey, you can see the Great Barrier Reef while in Cairns, which is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and worth the price of boat hire to get reasonably close to one of the most renowned natural creations in the world. Make sure to spend a night out at a great restaurant while in Cairns as well, because although the area does not have the same reputation as Adelaide, there are many menus that are worth the few extra dollars.
