Although summertime many not be here just yet, now is the time for teenagers to lay a foundation and plan for the summer job that they really want.

The first thing that teenagers should do is to determine what kind of summer job that want or need. This means deciding on the pay, the hours, and the kind of job. Although, teenagers might not be able to find a summer job that meets all of their requirement, they should try to find one that meets as many of their requirements as possible based on the current employment situation.

Teenagers should do is complete a self analysis of theirselves. They should determine what they have learned in school that may be useful in a summer job, what other type of work they have done, what skill they have, and what they can offer an employer.

A resume should be developed by teenagers who want a summer job. This will allow then to present a very professional image by presenting a resume that looks professional to potential employers.

To increase the chances of finding a summer job, teenagers should use all of the resources that are available to them. They should talk to adults such as teachers, friend's parents, and older members of their family that they know and ask them if they know anybody who can help them find a summer job. They should provide them with copies of their resume. This will increase the chances of finding a summer job and is called networking.

Teenagers should surf the Internet and read the advertisements for summer jobs in the newspaper and magazines. This is only necessary if all other efforts to find a summer job have failed.

Next, teenagers should apply for the summer job that they are interested in. They should present their resume to potential employers. They should ensure that they are familiar with the application for a summer job and have all the information that in needed to complete it.

Teenagers should then interview for the summer job. They should ensure that they know the answers to the types of questions that are usually asked during an interview by knowing as much as possible about the employer and the company. They should practice answering the common questions that are asked during an interview with a friend or family member. For the interview, they should also dress conservatively.

Employers want teenagers who are motivated. They want teenagers who will do the best job that they can by working their full shift, showing leadership qualities, working hard, working well with others, have a positive attitude, and arriving to work on time. Teenagers should demonstrate to the employer that they are a good investment for both for the current position and potential future positions as well.
