How Ugg Australia Boots Developed to Such a Big Brand

If you have paid attention to the boots people wear, you would find that Ugg Australia boots have been virtually everywhere. The sheepskin Ugg Australia boots are popular not only for their design, but also because they can keep your feet comfortable in almost any weather. That probably makes you wonder who first came up with the idea of making this type of footwear.

Not surprisingly, several countries claim to be the origin of the popular Ugg Australia boots style. Most famously, New Zealand and Australia have a long dispute about which country first developed the Ugg Australia boots style, but these days most people associate Australia with this style of boots. The reason is probably that the most popular manufacturer, UGG Australia, is named what it is. In fact, while this is truly the most famous brand, it is owned by an American company, Deckers.

The first recorded usage of this type of boot was during World War I, when they were used by aviators. At the time they were referred to as fug boots, which supposedly was a shortened form of flying Ugg Australia boots. However, they have also been recorded as being used in Australia during the 1920s. Production probably started earlier, but there is proof that the boots were produced as early as in 1933 by Blue Mountains Ugg Australia boots. By the 1950s, Mortels Sheepskin Factory was also making the same type of footwear.

In other words, Ugg Australia boots trace their history back almost 100 years. Most likely they originated in Australia, but do not say that loudly if you are in a presence of someone from New Zealand. These days most of the boots are actually made in China, and little manufacturing if any is done down under.
