The Do's and Don'ts When Updating a Logo

Updating a Logo is not such an easy task. It is often times misunderstood that if it's a redesign it's much easier than that of the first one. Actually redesigning is as difficult as the first one and maybe much more difficult since you already invested so much time and resources on the first logo. Consumers are already attached to your logo and a redesign might bring a negative impression to them. A change in a logo could bring so many effects to the company and the brand it represents. So it is advisable to identify first the do's and don'ts on Updating a Logo before you go a run for it. Below you will find some things you need to consider before redesigning a logo.

DO's

Stick to the original look and feel of the company it is best to research first the company before redesigning. They're nature of work, what they do and what they're consumers want to achieve from their logo. Retain also some elements that makes it effective. The more your consumers can recognize the logo the better it is. Don't stray from the original look too much because it might confuse your consumers leading to a negative impression. Consumer's may also not be able to adjust to the changes of the logo.

Make it Unique the main purpose of a logo is for the brand it represents to be identified from the rest in order for it to sell in the market. A logo should be unique and memory for it to be identified otherwise its useless.

Maintain Scalability a logo should be scalable because it will be mostly printed on any kind of printing materials. It should look good in a big poster and also even in the smallest of receipt. A scalable logo will not loss its quality even scaled to any size.

Involve your Client know also your client. Their needs and wants and what they want their logo design to portray.

DONT's

Copying other Logos - researching your competition is good for it might give a designer many concepts but copying others work is not such a good idea. Be honest and original. It is the key if you want to stay long in a logo design business.

Complicated Logo Design making your logo simple is still the best option. Too many details and too fancy logos are very hard to design and also hard to remember.
