Portion Control--The Key to Weight Loss

As much as people would like to think so. It is impossible to outexercise your diet. Though people often make bad choices in what they eat, the biggest mistake they make is that they EAT TOO MUCH! We as Americans have a distorted view of how much we should eat and what size a portion should be.

Let's say that you have no idea what is healthy to eat. If the only information that you had was what size a serving was and how many calories was in a serving, and stuck to that, you would drastically reduce your calorie intake without a lot of effort. Americans have a distorted view of what will get them to lose weight. Extreme denial of the foods you like to eat is not the key. On the contrary, that extreme denial may lead you to bingeing. Just sticking to what a serving size is will reduce calories and your weight will necessarily start to drop.

Once you get an idea of how much you can eat via portion control, you may begin to substitute healthier choices so that you can reach a balance of amount and types, of varied foods. The food pyramid will help you eat a varied and nutritionally balanced diet.

Often, emotions such as depression and boredom cause people to overeat. This can be avoided by planning meals in advance and only eating when you're hungry.

So now you received the big lecture on portion control. You're probably asking, "Is there a practical way to measure portions? Do I have to measure everything out? That'll take me forever!
