Student Life: Girls' Hunt for Beauty and Its Consequences

Beautiful body is the most desirable thing for the majority of young girls. They consider it as the first step to success, popularity and well-being. These days many girls want to be slim and gracious, that is why they look for the numerous ways to get thinner.

Girls' hunt for beauty can have unpredictable consequences, their obsession with diets leads to physical and psychological problems. The examples of such problems are anorexia and bulimia nervosas.

Actually, food is the source of energy for all organs, in other words, it is a source of life. However, for some people it becomes a destructive force and can influence negatively their mental well-being. Food can dominate people's thoughts, actions and feelings. As a matter of fact, such an obsession is a common young women's problem.

What is anorexia and bulimia and what are their consequences?

Anorexia is a type of a psychological disorder that dominates mostly among young girls. It is an obsession with the weight loss. People want to be thin and they are terrified to put up even a little weight. People who have this psychological disorder do exhausting exercises and starve to become unmorally slim.

Bulimia is a kind of mental disorder when people are also obsessed with their weight, but they cannot stop eating, especially fettering food. They take laxatives or throw up in order to get rid of the food.

Nobody knows the exact reasons of these disorders, but all scientists agree that they have a psychological basis. However, the reasons are different for every person.

People who have bulimia often suffer from lack of self-confidence and depressions. The feeling of not being able to overcome difficulties makes them find decisions "in the fridge".
