Pregnant Barbie - Really?

Pregnant Barbie - Really?

The pregnant Barbie doll that was released by Mattel has created some controversy over the years. Where do you stand on the issue? Are you one of the folks that thinks it is bad to expose kids to such stuff at a young age or do you feel that it is normal to explain this type of activities to your children? Well the controversy forced Mattel to pull pregnant Barbie from the shelves.

Some people complained that the doll encouraged young children to get pregnant. Others thought the doll was great for educating their children in the miracle of life. It actually is not Barbie that is pregnant at all. The doll is her friend Midge Hadley and she already has a kid and a husband. She actually has a magnetic belly that is removable and stores the baby inside. Don't you wish all pregnancies are that easy? Midge still looked kind of young to have a child and a second on the way. I think this is one reason that parents thought that the doll encouraged pregnancy at a young age.

Over the years there have been two types of pregnant Barbie dolls produced. The happy family Midge pregnant Barbie and the Barbie's friend Midge with pregnant tummy. You can still find these pregnat barbie dolls at Amazon or eBay usually being sold by colectors. They are still sought after by collectors and regular consumers that are either looking to add them to their Barbie collection or use them as an educational toy.
