You are aware of your children's comings and goings you say. But are you really? Do you know who their friends are? Are you aware of where they go or what they're doing at night?Or do you trust them to the point that you don't need to worry about them? The latter would be ideal. However, many parents fail to check on their children, especially teenagers, because they seem to be intimidated by their offspring. Some people are afraid that their children will resent them if they rule parental authority over them. But God's word says "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it." (Proverbs 22:6) It is also written "He who spares his rod (of correction) hates his son, but he who loves him disciplines him promptly."
We need to look at how the Lord admonishes us when we walk out of His protection. Sometimes things happen which are not to our liking; it feels as if God has abandoned us. But God says in Proverbs 3:12: "For whom the Lord loves He corrects, just as a father the son whom he delights." In the same manner, when we correct or chastise our children, it is out of the same kind of love that the Heavenly Father chastises us when He sees we are going astray. It is important to teach your offspring about the Lord from a very young age to instill into them godly values that will insure them to have a full and fruitful life- one free from self - condemnation and fear."You shall teach them [God's word] to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up." Dueteronomy 11:19.
Remember, the way you raise your children is most likely how they'll raise theirs. It is crucial to listen to them when they express concerns to you. Let your children know that they are important to you and what they have to say is important. If you respect them they will respect you. It goes back to the scripture "for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap."Galatians 6:7.
Care enough to make a difference in your children's lives. As they mature, they'll be ever grateful to you for making their lives your business.
