So let's say you are shopping and you fear that panic attack will strike any minute, so what you do is pretend that you don't sense it and then do things to avoid such feeling by either shifting your thoughts or making phone calls and so on.

While this attempt seem to work, but talking about long term effect, such approach is quite ineffective. You cannot always avoid your fear nor pretend that you don't feel such fear.
