What Presents to Give Your Dog

What Presents to Give Your Dog

Do you consider your dog a member of the family or just a hairy creature that you have to feed and water daily? If you said family member, then it's likely that your dog is also on the Christmas shopping list and receives regular birthday gifts. Why shouldn't they? After all, they live many fewer years than we do and we need to make each birthday count.

Maybe you don't exactly plan a surprise party for your canine each year, but that doesn't mean that you can't make it a special day for him as well as the family. The dog has undoubtedly brought you many hours of joy and sits there patiently while you enjoy your elaborate birthday celebrations. Why shouldn't you return the favor?

What do you get the dog that has everything? How about an edible greeting card? Or perhaps a birthday cake made of hamburger meat, sure to be a party pleaser. These days there are many novelty dog gifts available to make Rex's special day just right. If you're more traditional, a few jerky treats or rawhide bones should fit the occasion. If you want to go all out, there are several online merchants that cater especially to the doggy birthday party crowd. Spend too much time on one of these sites and you'll soon realize that your last year's party you thought was the bomb, really wasn't all that.

So how old is Fido? You need to know this to plan the appropriate party. The new thinking is that dogs age about 10.5 human years in each of their first two years of life. Afterwards they age at a rate of 4 human years per year of life. So if your dog has been on earth four years, he'll be pushing thirty. A nice doggy beer or wine, or perhaps a few doggy cigars might make an age appropriate gift. I'm sure he'll share.

Keep in mind that your canine birthday boy may not exactly be a fan of moderation and may need some help from you in that department. Save some cake for tomorrow. No one wants to be sick on their birthday.
