Change Your Boat's Oil Efficiently and Reduce the Threat to the Marine Environment!

To prolong the life of the boat, most boat owners go through the tedious task of changing the oil and filter at least once a year. But, changing the boat's oil can be one of the most daunting tasks for any boat owner as there are possibilities of accidental oil spills, which in turn contribute to marine pollution and lead to Coast Guard fines. To avoid such situations, efficient methods for changing boat oil have to be adopted.

Here are some useful steps that you can follow while changing boat oil:

Let your boat's engine run until it gets warmed up to 130 degrees. By doing so, the oil will be loosened from the engine. As a result, the oil will no longer be thick and will flow freely and also drain better.

Open the oil plug and use an oil pump to drain the old oil into the catch pan. It is recommended that you go for oil pumps so that you can reach the oil plugs of inboard engines with ease.

Once the old oil gets drained completely, proceed with changing the oil filter. Take extra care while changing the filter since there might be possible oil spills when it is unscrewed. To avoid such spills, a plastic bag can be fastened to the filter.

Replace the oil plug and fill the oil receptacle with the appropriate amount of oil. Using a funnel for filling purpose can reduce oil spills to a great extent.

Cleanup the oil spills and drips immediately using only eco-friendly oil spill cleaners. You can use Oil Gone Easy S-200 for effective oil spill cleanup as it works using bioremediation technology.

Make sure that the oil does not seep into your boat's bilge tank as letting out oily bilge water into the sea can get you heavy Coast Guard fines.

Run the engine for few minutes and most importantly dispose the old oil properly.
