Location

At the southern tip of Asia, forming the southeastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea, lies the Land of Israel, ERETZ YISREAL , known to many as the Holy Land. It is a natural land bridge between Asia and Africa, and between the Mediterranean and the Red Sea. Israel Guide brief history: Since 1948, Israel is a sovereign republic existing in the ancient biblical homeland of the Jewish people. The borders of the state are:

North-with Lebanon: from Rosh Hanikra on the Mediterranean , eastwards across Upper Galilee , then northwards, enclosing the Hula Valley and reaching Mount Hermon. This line corresponds , for the most part, with the pre-1948 boundary of Mandated Palestine.

North-East, with Syria: from Mount Hermon across the Golan heights , to the Yarmuk River, along lines drawn in the Israel-Syria Separation -of -Forces Agreement of May , 1974.

East, with Jordan: (a) from the Yarmuk River along the Jordan River to the Dead Sea, a line that dates from the cease -fire after the Six-Days-War of 1967 (b) from the Dead Sea to the Red Sea , as defined in the 1949 Israel-Jordan Armistice Agreement.

South-West, with Egypt (under the terms of the Israel-Egypt Peace Treaty signed on March 26, 1979): from a point just south of Raffah on the Mediterranean coast, to a point just south of Eilat on the Red Sea (TABBAH).This border goes into effect in April 1982, after a series of Israeli withdrawals from Sinai.

The total area enclosed by these borders is approximately 10,260 sq. mi.

The territories in Judeah , Samaria &Gaza strip are still pending agreement on final boundaries and are the main issue in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Cliamte

Cliamatic conditions vary from region to region.
