Factors Affecting the Efficiency of Scabies Treatments

There are several different factors which affect the efficiency of scabies treatments, including the patient's overall health, his age, and the accuracy of medical diagnosis, the severity of the problem as well as the speed of therapeutic intervention. At the same time as treatment of scabies involves the elimination of underlying parasites, time required to kill these organisms would often vary from one person to another. For an instance, it would take about 10 days to eradicate these mites from a person with normal health. On the other hand, it would take much longer to kill mites from infants, elderly people or those individuals with a poor immune system.

The medications for scabies are usually available in the form of gels, lotions and creams for external use or oral tablets and pills to increase the efficiency. It is essential to remember that even if the mites are eliminated from the body, the symptoms of the condition would continue to exist for about 14 days once the mites are killed. The medications would only kill the mites and would not work towards reducing the symptoms of the condition. Therefore, in addition to the scabicides, it would be suggestive to take separate medications to control the scabies symptoms such as itching, rash, redness or blisters. Lastly, the most important factor that maximises the efficiency of scabies medication is the speed and accuracy of diagnosis. Scabies can often produce a selection of non-specific symptoms and can mislead the diagnosis process and prolong healing. We suggest treating naturally first before you turn to any chemicals such as permethrin which can ultimately slow the healing process and cause secondary infections which can be worse than scabies itself.
