What is Domestic Violence? Domestic Violence is any assault, battery, sexual assault, sexual battery, stalking, aggravated stalking, kidnapping, false imprisonment or any criminal offense resulting in physical injury or death of a family or household member by another, who is or was living in the same home. You are in an abusive relationship if your partner:

Is exceptionally moody or has a frighting temper. Prevents you from seeing your friends or family. Threatens to hurt or kill you, your children, your family, friends, or pets. Yells at you, reprimands you or demeans you in public. Hits, slaps, pushes or shoves you, pulls your hair or inflicts physical injury on you in any way. Prevents you from getting a job or keeping a job or even going to school. Keeps you from leaving the house or locks you out of the house. Does not allow you to know about family finances or keeps you in poverty.

Traits of the Batterer? Tracks all of the partners time. Constantly accusses the partner of being unfaithful. Discourages ties with family and friends. (Isolates you so you don't have support). Prevents partner from working or attending school. (So you become co-dependant). Criticizes the partner for insignificant things. Gets angry when drinking alcohol or taking drugs. Controls all finances and forces the partner to account for everything, all the money they spend. Destroys the partner's personal property. Hits, punches, slaps, kicks, shoves, or bites the partner and or children. Threatens to hurt the partner and or the children. Forces partners to have sex against their will. Threatens to harm or harms the family pet.
