Ooty is known for its natural beauty and attracts tourists from all the corners of the world. Other than the natural splendours, Ooty has many places of attraction. Some important ones are the Botanical Gardens which spreads over an area of 50-acre.
The foundation of this garden was laid down by Marquis of Tweeddale in the year 1848. These gardens lie on the slopes of the Doddabetta peak. Rose garden is another exotic garden which is 3 to 4-km away from Charring Cross. This garden has roses of 2000 varieties.
The St Stephens Church located in the hilly area on Club Road is the oldest church in the Nilgiri hills. The church was built in 1829 and consecrated in 1830.
Doddabetta peak which is the highest peak in Nilgiris is another great attraction. The peak is about 10-km from Ooty, from here one can get the most picturesque view of the Nilgiri hill ranges.
The Deer park which is situated at a distance of 1-km from the Lake attracts large number of people due to its striking beauty and tranquillity.
The Government Museum in Ooty is also worth visiting, the museum is situated on Mysore Road in Ooty. The museum has wide range of items of tribal objects which are quiet unusual. You can also get district's ecological details and representative sculptural arts and crafts of Tamil Nadu under the same roof. The museum was set up in the year 1989.
The Hindustan Photo Films is another great attraction of Ooty, this is the chief industrial unit of the district and is at a distance of 5-km away from Ooty railway station. This is spread over an area of over 300 acres, near the Ooty golf-links on the Ooty- Mysore Road.
