Resveratrol: Anti-Cancer Hero

Cancer is one of the most dreaded illnesses for humans. This class of diseases begets millions of deaths each year. It can affect everybody regardless of age and race. The possibility even escalates as people mature, so no one can be certain that cancer will never occur in his or her lifetime.

Fortunately, most cancers can be treated. Treatments usually include chemotherapy and surgery, but some are combined with radiotherapy. Cancer can also be avoided by reducing the risk triggered by smoking, obesity, and infections. Prevention can be better than cure, and for many individuals, their way of doing that is by taking food supplements.

The effects of taking supplements differ from product to product. Some provide added essential nutrients, and some give targeted nourishment. For resveratrol supplements, they are recognized as having cancer-preventing benefits. The claim is a result of years of extensive research and countless consumer feedback. That is why more and more people are into resveratrol these days.

In 1997, an experiment in Chicago, Illinois showed that the development of cancer was prevented in carcinogen-treated mice by applying resveratrol to the surface of their skin before and after exposure to ultraviolet radiation. The substance impeded skin damage and reduced the cancer's chances of recurring. This is one of the first studies that led people to buy resveratrol products that are commercially produced. Scientists saw the big potential, so they did more experiments.

Subsequent studies that became popular suggested that resveratrol is more effective when it directly comes into contact with tumors. However, other findings indicated that orally and prophylactically given resveratrol also reduced the size and number of esophageal, colon, mammary, and intestinal tumors, thus preventing further cancer development. There are several other reports that reflect the same results, and this has caught the attention of the world and caused people to buy resveratrol.

Certainly, this is not just any other fad. Scientific backings have established that resveratrol can do wonders to human health, including the prevention of cancer. Doctors may not recommend their patients to buy resveratrol supplements as treatment, but these products are not in pharmacies for no reason. Resveratrol is here to save lives.
