Getting Financial Aid: What Is It and How to Get It?

Some percent of students of college and universities can receive financial aid from their higher education establishment of the following types: Scholarship; Fellowship; Assistantship. Other students have to pay for their education themselves or try to take part in competition for financial aid in some private or state fund. The Financial Aid for Post-Graduate Students It is much difficult to get financial aid for postgraduate students. Usually it is considered that they have already necessary skills and they can work to earn money to cover their education. But there is a way out for them. Such students are usually paid financial aid in two cases: if they work as a teacher's assistant helping him or her in the work or if students carry out some research work which is considered to be interesting and essential. It is much easier to receive financial aid under conditions of the second type, because research work is useful not only in this case, but also it adds extra points to study marks and it can be continued after graduating from the university. Kinds of the Financial Aid Financial aid can be of two types: full and partial. Full financial aid covers all the expenses for education, it can be paid either regularly, or once. Partial financial aid usually exists in form of different grants and awards that are given to students one as a prize for winning a competition. Universities provide the following types of the financial aid: Teaching Assistantships - the financial aid given to students who are working as assistants for their teachers; Research Assistantships - the financial aid given to students who are carrying out some research work; Fellowships - the full financial aid which requires no additional work or researches. It is usually paid to the best post-graduate students with the highest marks and best scores.
