Relive Your Childhood Friday Nights With Satellite TV

Remember when you were younger how you used to stay at home on Friday, order a delivery pizza, invite some friends over and tune into ABC to watch all two great hours of TGIF programming? Now you can easily relive those moments. Several of the shows have been released on DVD, but even easier, many of them are aired as reruns on satellite tv channels. At it's peak in the mid-1990s, the Friday-night lineup included Family Matters, Boy Meets World, Step by Step, and Hangin' with Mr. Cooper. Although you still can't watch these sitcoms in high definition, you really don't need to and the old school quality makes you reminisce that much more. Here are some great reasons to re-watch these shows.

Family Matters - This great show ran for 8 years, but that still wasn't enough time to create enough episodes! Whenever you're having a bad week, catching a little time to watch Steve Urkel make you laugh is always a fabulous idea. There just haven't been any other characters on TV like this guy since. No one wears glasses, high pants, and suspenders quite like Urkel. His character really made the show, and it was always highly entertaining to watch him learn from and develop a relationship with Carl and to watch him struggle to attract the woman he loved. Reruns can be found at Nick at Nite.

Boy Meets World Although TV is full of many teenage coming-of-age stories, none of them compare to this one. What other show had such a sweet protagonist as Corey? Or a beautiful, intelligent and independent love interest like Topanga? Or a bad-boy but dedicated best-friend like Shawn? Or a pushy but funny and caring teacher like Mr. Feeny? The great character development, acting, and believable storylines that come with life lessons are what make this classic series so great. Check your satellite tv listings to find out when these old episodes will air on the ABC family channel near you.

Step by Step Even though it was the 1990s, there still weren't very many portrayals on TV of families who fit outside the nuclear family model. This funny sitcom was important for so many kids growing up who needed to see their family represented on TV. The show managed to talk about serious issues and how difficult it can be to have step-parents and step-siblings, but at the same time, the show retained a great ability to make the audience laugh. Old episodes run in syndication on ABC Family.

Hangin' with Mr. Cooper This series went a long way to promoting great values that often weren't seen on other shows during the same era. Not only were there cheesy storylines with cheesy lessons to be learned, but the show also told the story of a successful black-man who often gets good advice from smart women. This great show has aired on satellite tv channels such as Spike, TNN, and Ion Television so check your listings to find out when and where the reruns will air near you.
