I get a lot of emails from couples wanting to get pregnant with a boy baby. Some of the most common questions have to do with how hard or difficult this process really is. Many of the couples have heard that the boy or Y sperm is weaker than the X or girl producing sperm and therefore assume that this process is going to be pretty difficult for them. While the Y sperm being shorter lived is true, there are some equalizers that make conceiving a boy not nearly as hard as some people fear. I'll discuss this more in the following article.
Overcoming The Relative Strength Of The Girl Producing X Sperm: Your main goal for a boy conception should be to rid your vaginal and reproductive tract of as many X or girl producing sperm chromosomes as you possibly can, as quickly as you can. While it's not likely that you're going to be able to eliminate every single one, this should be your goal. And this is important because while the X's are very slow, they live for a long time, giving them a distinct advantage.
The boy sperm definitely do not have longevity on their side, but they do have speed. You can not control the speed of either sperm chromosome, but you most definitely can control the timing of when you send these chromosomes to the egg. And you can also control the environment that they'll have to navigate through once they are trying to make their way to the egg.
Making Timing Your Ally Rather Than Your Enemy: If you were to just pick a day that was convenient for you to try to conceive, you'd probably be stacking the odds against the Y's because they can only live for a few days. Choosing the right day on which to become pregnant is vitally important if you want a boy because the Y's will start the deterioration process quite earlier than the X sperm. So, you will need to wait until you are absolutely certain that the egg is not only ready to be released, but has actually been released. In other words, ovulation needs to have already occurred quite recently. You can wait as long as one day after this to have intercourse, but you really should not try any later than that, since you'll probably only have a few of these little guys present who have managed to survive that long.
But if there is any good news here, it's this. It is far more easy to determine when ovulation has already occurred than it is to predict when it is on it's way. People trying to conceive girls have to be able to see into the future, but folks who want a son need only to be able to see what is happening today and that can be a lot easier. Ovulation predictors today tell you when ovulation has already occurred so this process should not be difficult. I prefer saliva predictors because they let you test more than once per day, but any predictor should work.
The Acidity Equation: Another factor that can keep you from success is having a vaginal environment that is too hostile or too acidic so that the Y or boy sperm can not survive in it. Many people are intimidated by gauging and then changing their pH, but this is not as difficult as you might think either. Get some PH testing strips at a health food store or nutrition center and then test your acidity by carefully following the directions. You can see in just a few minutes if your pH is high or low. If it is even remotely high, you'll need to change it to be much lower. You can do this with either foods or diet, or with douching. You can even use both of these methods if you are in a hurry or want to be sure that you have enough time to do this before your next ovulation occurs.
To make this process easier, there are food lists and douche recipes and solutions out there which will take a lot of the guess work out of the equation. Know that you won't need to lessen your calories or take in less foods. Honestly, studies show that folks who conceive boys consume a slightly higher amount of calories so you most certainly do not want to diet, but you do want to make sure that the foods you're eating are low in pH or are alkaline.
