Things To Do In Meath This February by:Anita Lyon

Zoe Rahman is set to take the town of Navan by storm this coming February when she visits the Solstice Arts Centre with her production 'Zoe Rahman Trio, with special guest Idris Rahman'. Zoe is feted as one of the bright shining stars of the modern jazz scene and her highly successful 'Live' album only served to further impress the point among her fans. Further members of the group include Gene Calderazzo playing the drums, Oli Hayhurst featured on the bass and a guest appearance by her brother, Idris Rahman.

Her show has fast become one of the top things to do in Ireland this season and fans will be flocking to the local Solstice Centre for this latest performance. The Observer had her described as a "remarkable pianist by any standard" and many would agree, and it seems that a talent for jazz runs in her family's blood. Renowned for her strong original performances and intense classical style, her performances are always memorable events and theaters clamor for attendance.

Zoe was born in the historical British city of Chichester and became a student of classical piano during her attendance at the Academy of Music. She earned a music degree at Oxford University, no small feat, and went on to earn a jazz scholarship from Berklee College where she proceeded to study under the enigmatic pianist JoAnne Brackeen. Her career always showed solid growth with regular awards and recognition, and it quickly became clear, after she claimed Perrier Young Jazz Musician of the Year Award in 1999, that the world may just be witnessing the Mary Lou Williams of the 21st century.

Later in 1999 Zoe established her own record label named 'Manushi Records' and in 2000 she proceeded to release her first album which was named 'The Cynic' which resulted in her nomination for 'Rising Star' at the 2001 BBC Jazz Awards. Her follow up album 'Melting Pot' received huge acclaim and also the attention of the highly prestigious nationwide Mercury Prize. She was nominated for their award in 2006 along with the likes of Thom Yorke of Radiohead as well as renowned bands Artic Monkeys and the near legendary Muse. Melting Pot also won the title of 'Jazz Album of the Year' at the UK's first Parliamentary Jazz Awards.

Her third and fourth albums were also met with critical acclaim and her success has only grown in the new century. Ireland is abuzz with the expectation of her arrival and the performance is certainly shaping up to be one of the most anticipated things to do in Meath this year.
