subject: Christmas Gifts - Children Shoppers [print this page] It's the Most Wonderful Time of the YearIt's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year. Christmas time is when "want" list get long and children write letters to Santa. Adults like buying for children just to see that look on their face.
It is time to give out some gift cards for tween and teenagers, and buy Christmas Gifts and Toys.
Have you ever watched a group of kids playing in a room when the TV is on? Most of the time they are running around laughing and making a lot of noise until..... A commercial comes on. To be more specific, a T-O-Y commercial.
Then it is like the pied piper sprinkled pixy dust all over them. They all stop in their tracks and turn to the TV with wide eyes glued to the screen. Some will get up so close to the TV that you wonder how can they watch something that close?
It is as if all the kids were turned into aliens from outer space. Hello, hello! Where did my child go? Knock knock is anybody home? Who is that Zombie?
You find your self saying those same things your parents or grandparents use to say. Back away from the TV, You're going to go blind being up so close or Your Daddy wasn't a glass maker. Children will follow up with buy me this, buy me that or I want that.
When it is their time to shop it is nice to see what they do and what they buy. Children have big hearts. They want to give. Oh yes, they want to get stuff for them selves, but at the Holidays most children shoppers from 5 up to teenagers will want to buy for their siblings, parents or that special friend that they kind of like at school.
Our children need to learn how to entertain themselves. We use to do it when we were children. We all like video games, but it is good to use your imagination. It helps with their development as they grow. We use to supplement our toys with things from around the house. Remember when you used a Puffs Kleenex box for a car for your Barbie or GI Joe?
As adults we need to teach our children how to shop and the value of money at the right age. We may have to help with some gift ideas.
There is a news story about some children in Springfield, MO who had a shopping day at the Library holiday store where they could buy for the whole family starting with a quarter up to $5.00. What a great idea.
Teach a child to set a budget for the holidays so that they don't spend all of their allowance or piggy bank money. Take them to a store where they can get the most for their money like the $dollar store or Savers for the little ones and a discount store for tween and teenagers and let them pick out what they want to buy for everyone in the family.
They can wrap the gifts them selves or with our help or let them get it gift wrapped. Let them go through the whole experience so that they can get or learn the joy of giving.
Everybody likes to play Santa. On Christmas morning when everyone is opening their gifts watch the smiles on your kids faces as they watch you and yours open what they bought for you.
It gives everyone the warm and fuzzes all over. If you want to see the Springfield video come to our website and click - kids in this article.
If they can count money it is not too early for them to learn how to shop.
