Many said that Jack learned to surf as he learned to walk. He started surfing at the age of 10. At 17, he made it into the finals for the prestigious Pipe trials. He was the youngest participant by then. On the same year, a major turning point happened in his life when he crashed his body into a reef while competing for the Pipeline Masters. This near death experience forced him to take a break from surfing.
While he was recovering, he studied filmmaking and later became a world-renowned surf film director. He was also a photographer, a producer, and a score composer at the same time. His works were well-received by the industry and even won him an award as best film of the year given by The Surfer Magazine Poll for his surf flick "The September Sessions."
While in college, he began writing songs. Composing was an easy breeze because he learned to play the guitar at age 14. He grew up with a different musical influences "" Ben Harper, the Beatles, Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, etc. His singing career took off when G. Love was introduced to him for a short lesson in surfing. G. Love was so amazed by his musical talent and they ended up recording his first ever single "Rodeo Clowns" for the album Philadelphonic. Since then, Jack Johnson"s musical career as been unstoppable.
