Srinagar: A ghost of 2009 uprising revisits the town on Friday, when a teenager, who was battling for life after getting injured during clashes between government forces and protesters in Maisuma locality of Srinagar last year, succumbed to his injuries at his residence last night.

According to Agence India Press correspondent, 14-year-old Arif Bhat, son of Javed Ahmed Bhat of Chinkral Mohalla was injured on October, 25, 2009 when violent clashes broke out between forces and protesters in Maisuma locality. He was laid to rest at Eidgah graveyard.

Arif, who was hit by a teargas canister in head fired by a policeman at Maisuma near Budshah Chowk in October last year, was rushed to SK Institute of medical sciences. He was operated and instantly put on ventilator in the Intensive Care Unit of the institute.

However, due to abject poverty, his parents could not carry out the treatment of their son. Last night, the teenager breathed his last.

Meanwhile, a complete shutdown was observed in Chinrkal Mohalla and Habba Kadal to mourn the death of the teenager.

Kashmir valley has been in deep trouble since more than four months now. More than 110 people have been killed and many more handicapped since June 11 after teenager Tufail Matto of old city area of summer capital Srinagar fell to the teargas canister fired by a police man. (AIP)
