Why Do Some Airpots Get Named After Celebrities

There some airports in the world that are named after celebrities. In fact it seems like an increasing amount of airport are being named after famous people, but why does this happen?

Airports get named after celebrities for a wide range of region. People on flights from New York to Tallahassee may wonder why they are leaving from an airport named after a dead President. Will the naming of airports after famous people is a way of commemorating that person. In the case of JFK, it was the way of making one of American's busiest airport carry the name of one of America's most beloved leaders of all time. It also helps with the number of people who fly to the airport as naming an airport after a celebrity can serve to play on the name recognition as a marketing tool.

Other airports that use the names of celebrities include John Lennon Liverpool Airport and Robin Hood Airport outside Nottingham. When taking flights from Las Vegas to Manila you could try to think up some famous people that the airport could be named after as a game. Perhaps the Las Vegas airport could be named after a famous poker player, or Manila airport could be name after one of the country's most famous leaders.

Most of all it seems that airports named after airports are using the name to make money. The airport is then able to sell merchandise bearing both the name of the airport as well as the name of a famous people. I personally prefer flights from Los Angeles to Ho Chi Minh City which trade on the brand name of the airports, and the quality that you associate with those airports rather than using someone else's name to indicate quality and try to make a little more money.
