The Grasmere Hotel rothay Garden Wins Gold For Its Team Approach In Cumbria Tourism Awards

The winners of the 2009 Cumbria Tourism Awards were revealed at a special ceremony in Kendal this month and Rothay Garden Hotel was the proud winner of one of the most important awards of the year the Lady Inglewood Award for Innovative People Management.

Tourism professionals and businesses from around Cumbria gathered as the winners were announced by actor and broadcaster, Ted Robbins. The prizes recognised excellence both in business and in people and each category winner received a certificate and specially designed award.

The Lady Inglewood Award is given to a tourism business whose investment in innovative people management, training and development has directly contributed to improvements in business performance. In a gesture in keeping with the spirit of the award, Chris Carss asked Andrew Burton, Head Chef, and Victoria Bailey, Deputy Manager, to go up on stage to collect the award on behalf of the hotel and the whole team.

Chris said Im especially pleased to win this award, as it is an important recognition of the extra training and development opportunities which all the staff took advantage of during our redevelopment period last year. It also goes a long way to re-enforce our recent award of four stars from the AA, and shows that even in this age of technology, it is good people skills which is at the foundation of the hospitality industry.

Rothay Garden is not one of the standard, ordinary hotels in the Lake District. It is one of the newest four star hotels in Cumbria. It is a Grasmere hotel nestled in two acres of classic Lake District riverside gardens and surrounded by the majestic Lakeland fells.

The Lady Inglewood Award is handcrafted by Jo Vincent of Jo Vincent Glass Designers, and can be seen proudly on display at Rothay Garden; a beautiful boutique Lake District Hotel.
