The Natural Beauty Of Rotorua

New Zealand is a picturesque country with equally picturesque areas for tourists to come see. Rotorua is one of them, and is famous for its hot springs, deep forests, wonderful lakes, mud pools and amazing geysers. The population in this area of New Zealand is comprised mainly of Maori people and, if you travel to these parts, you will get the exquisite chance to learn about the Maori way of living, about their arts, crafts and culture. Traditional performances are held here for tourists, but there are also many other sites where you can appreciate the beautiful Rotorua, like the Government Gardens, the Museum of Art and History, and the Whakarewarewa Thermal Area, along with Lake Rotorua.

The Government Gardens are widely appreciated by tourists because of the beautiful scenery, rich in flower beds, thermal pools and lush vegetation. Right across the street from the gardens, you will spot the museum where you can admire a wide array of Maori items. The architecture of the building is quite impressive as it used to be a spa decorated in Tudor style. Even the history of the place is exhibited inside the museum. Among other exhibits, you can see the items made by Arawa people that used to specialize in jade carving and flax weaving. If you happen to be in Rotorua at the right time, you may get the chance to see an ad-hoc gallery, which is a type of event taking place often in this museum.

The city is named after Lake Rotorua, which is another of its most important attractions. This volcanic lake is best used for fishing, kayaking or windsurfing. If you like, you can embark on a cruise, as well. In the center of this lake, you will find Mokoia Island, famous for the birds living here. Summer is the best time of the year to visit the lake.

The geothermal area is also something you have to explore closer. There are two divisions of the area, Te Puia, where you will find the Maori Arts and Crafts Institute, as well as some amazing geysers; and Whakarewarewa Thermal Village. The traditional arts and crafts of the Maori can be experienced first hand, as the villagers show their skill by going about their business regardless of the curious travelers. You can also attend a concert or shop for some souvenirs to remind you of your trip to Rotorua.

In the Whakarewarewa Thermal Village, you will be able to visit the hot springs. The place also features a meeting house where concerts are being held. You can purchase some beautiful hand crafted items at the shops that you can find here.

Rotorua is a great place to be in New Zealand. The area is rich in history, and outdoor adventures are readily available at your fingertips. This is a very exciting tourist destination where you can try many activities, such as hiking, camping, boating, water skiing and so on, not to mention that you can learn more about the culture of the Maori people.
