One of the best ways to learn French fast is by listening to stories. Especially for students who are trying to learn French in classroom settings, it helps to keep things interesting. The majority of French language materials are built around rote exercises. You may remember these from your school days, when you were expected to listen to and repeat phrases over and over. This method provided very little benefit and it could make anything from Latin to Japanese incredibly dull to learn.
There are much better ways to learn French in classroom settings. You can add materials that tell stories, which provide some important benefits to the experience. First, they give students a reason to understand the language. Because these materials tend to start out a bit simpler and ramp up as they go, the students are able to get involved with the characters right away. This gives them a reason to keep up an effort at understanding the language they're hearing later in the story, when they want to find out what happens to the characters. The fact that this isn't boring is of no small consequence, either.
Instructors are always trying to find ways to make education more interesting to students. Providing a story is a good way to get them to learn French fast without reinventing the wheel. In fact, most people who study another language don't actually become fluent until they have a bit of immersion learning, which is exactly what story-based materials provide for students. By listening to people speak French in a way that is not designed to explain every feature and every word to someone who doesn't understand it, the student's brains are forced to engage and they tend to learn more, and get a better sense of accomplishment when they do.
You can also have students learn French songs to speed up the learning process. This is a good replacement for the rote exercises that used to dominate lesson plans of the past. Because songs are repetitive, but not boring, students get the words and phrases they need to learn reinforced without having to repeat them over and over in a speaking voice. Language learning should never be dull. Unfortunately, many older methods offer a very dull experience, indeed. Newer materials, based in storytelling and music, offer much better results for students and instructors.
