New Ways to Learn French in the Classroom

Learning French in the classroom fills some students with understandable dread. Most of what they envision will be pouring over a phrase book, learning how to handle verbs they don't really understand and memorizing lists of vocabulary words. This is usually punctuated by periods where students clumsily try to speak French to one another, or where they sit around repeating phrases such as, "Bonjour, Misseur Picard" over and over again. This is a great way to make sure that a French class really is something to dread. It should, however, be something that students look forward to.

Songs in the French classroom can liven up the atmosphere a lot. They don't have to be songs that are just taught to and sung by the students as part of an exercise. Musical productions offer an innovative way to lend more relevance to the songs where the student's education is concerned. Broadway-like productions allow instructors to present a multi-media experience that teaches language and makes going to class a lot of fun for students, instead of burdening them with chores that make language truly tedious and classes not worth showing up for.

When students learn songs in the French classroom that have actual context and purpose for their learning, they tend to acquire language skills very quickly. Songs allow them to have some fun with the task of learning, and this can make it easier on their minds and help them to absorb the material instead of concentrating on the frustrations that oftentimes come with learning a new language. When they're hearing a story, learning about the characters and when finding out how the story turns out motivates them to pay attention, it's much more likely that they're learn to love the language; a far more useful outcome than merely learning to speak it.

Consider adding musical productions to your teaching tools. The good products on the market mix voice acting and music to create an experience that pulls students along and helps them to avoid becoming bored. If you want students to learn French fast, it's good if they have a bit of motivation. The songs in these productions make them fun to listen to and the spoken words, which advance the plot and explain the characters, help to give students a reason to keep up the effort and to embrace the challenge.
