Christmas Needn't Be The Overindulgent Time We All Assume

Most people I know have a decent enough balance in their lives when it comes to trying to be healthy and fit but at the same time enjoying the odd takeaway and chocolate bar and the odd cheeky bottle of wine now and then but what prompted me to think about my lifestyle was reading about the fact that nearly a quarter of all adults in England today are now obese or close to it. This is a massive figure and a massive wake up call surely.

We've all had a few weeks or months here and there where we over-indulge for a bit too long on too many sweets, chocolates or other rich or unhealthy foods and when we notice our clothes starting to feel tight we heed the warning signals and pull back and drop the snacks or maybe decide to step up the exercise and lay off the wine during the week. Its really all about maintaining control over your life but this can seem like a huge task depending on what else is going on at the time or the kind of job you have (or don't have for that matter).

I have often wondered how some people are able to be very disciplined in their approach to food or exercise and some people are not. I think I am somewhere in between because I am not overweight and I get enough exercise that I am able to eat what I want but I also know that I need to make sure my diet is balanced with plenty of fruit and vegetables and that I am getting as much exercise as I can. I have made the conscious decision to live my life this way.

One of my conscious decisions involving exercise and fresh air was to walk my children to and from school and nursery as often as I could. I know this isn't the case for many people but my job makes this luxury possible and so does the proximity of the school and nursery from my house though having said that some people would think it was too far to walk but I really love the walk (if its not raining). I also decided to maximise the effects of this daily exercise by investing in a pair of FitFlop boots to tone and firm up my legs and bum whilst I walk. It is just a small change to the routine of wearing normal trainers but since I started a couple of months ago I have noticed a difference so now I am looking at other ways of making subtle changes to my lifestyle to become even more balanced and healthy.
