Books The Alternative For Distracted Children

If you find that your child has a short attention span, except when in front of the television, then try to change TV time into story time. Reading aloud to your children is a great way to keep their attention focused on the story, and eventually, they'll pick up from their parents on how much fun and knowledge literature can bring. It's a good idea to read in little chunks at first, starting maybe with 15 minutes of reading. Take the habit of reading to your kids before bed, as this will be a time of bonding which both the parent and child relish.

If your child is totally aversive of reading or paying attention, give him the freedom of making his own choices down at the library. Unless your child chooses material which is inappropriate for his age, don't criticize him and let him stick with what he wants. Empowering your child with the freedom of choice when it comes to reading will greatly increase his interest for it.

If you want to read something a bit more educative and your infant complains about it, make it a deal with him that for every five minutes you read of the current, boring, book, you will read five minutes of the child's book. This way, your kid will gain twice the exposure to aloud reading, which will push him to learn more promptly.

Do not mistake the child's refusal to listen to your book as an act of defiance. Remember, that attachment challenged children have a threshold of tolerance when it comes to certain activities, and when they reach it, they want out. By making him listen a bit to your book will result in training his listening skills, so he can actually enjoy the process of reading aloud.
