Getting Pregnant at 40 It's Not an Impossible Task

Did you let your twenties and thirties go by without trying to have a baby? The presence of growing numbers of women in the work force and their increasing education levels has resulted in many women delaying motherhood till their late thirties and early forties. Whatever your reason was for not having a baby earlier, you will realize that getting pregnant at 40 face to face with a lot of hurdles. However, it is not an impossible situation because there are many factors that determine whether you can get pregnant and successfully carry a baby to term at the age of 40.

There is no doubt that there is an ideal age to get pregnant at when the body is perfectly tuned to handle the rigors of a pregnancy and childbirth. As women grow older, their ovulation becomes less regular which makes it difficult to predict their fertile period with a fair degree of accuracy. The other problem they face is the greater possibility of genetic abnormalities in the fetus which can also lead to miscarriages.

Getting pregnant at 40 is possible if you do all the right things in order to overcome any hurdles that nature puts in your path. This is an easier task today because of the greater levels of nutrition and health care available today. On the other hand, there are greater amounts of pollutants in the environment today that can hinder a woman's ability to get pregnant at any age.

The lesson from this is that you have to be in excellent physical condition in order to get pregnant, and that you should also eat the right foods that offer protection from the toxic substances in the environment. Being the ideal weight is a very important thing because every pound of excess fat can reduce your chances of conceiving a child.

Diet therefore plays a very important role and you need to have a balanced diet that is rich in fruits and green leafy vegetables. Dairy products, beans and lean meats are also important since all these foods provide you with the vital nutrients necessary to keep your body functioning properly. It would be best to eat organic food since this will help to bring down the levels of toxins in your system. You should also avoid alcohol and cigarettes completely because they have a very negative effect on your fertility.

Since you are likely to have an irregular menstrual cycle, it would be best for you to have as much sexual activity throughout the fertile period and also to include a few days at the beginning and the end. This has to be done in a joyful manner and not with determination to have a child because stress will reduce your chances of conceiving a child.

You have to approach the process of getting pregnant as something that is enjoyable and not as a difficult chore. Your positive attitude is most likely to be rewarded as long as you and your partner are both fertile and healthy.
