How Are Courier Shipments Insured?

When it comes to your goods, insurance is something which is always a priority. For any company that sells a physical product, protection of the investment represented by their products is something which always needs to be considered. That is why before you ship your cargo with any Phoenix delivery services, it can be worthwhile to find out exactly what their insurance situation is, although in most case your deliveries will be so well insured that you will have nothing to worry about.

Courier insurance is a special kind of insurance which is particular to the courier industry. This is a type of insurance policy which protects goods which do not belong to the courier company that they are carrying in their vehicles. That way, if almost anything happens to those packages, there is an insurance policy in place which should cover the loss to the client of the courier. The good news is that this insurance is usually very comprehensive and should cover almost any eventuality that could crop up during shipping.

For instance, there are many things which could conceivably happen that would cause damage to a courier shipment. Weather is always a threat, as rain could destroy many shipments. Fire has to be taken into account, as do traffic accidents. There is always a risk of a courier driver ending up in a collision which could easily cause damage to the cargo that they are carrying. However, the insurance carried by courier companies protects against all these events and many others which could cause physical damage to packages, including courier carelessness such as if a package is dropped.

Courier insurance also covers anything which would cause a package to get lost. Although it doesn't happen very often, a courier could conceivably lose a package, and this would be insured. Also, theft, either of the package or of the vehicle which the package is contained within would be covered by their insurance policy. Most couriers have separate insurance which provides protection against employee related theft.

Courier insurance is almost always more than enough to give you peace of mind when it comes to your package's transportation. However, if you are shipping goods which are extremely valuable for their size, you may need to consider additional insurance. Ask your courier what the maximum declared value on your shipment is. Only if the actual value of your goods exceeds that number by a considerable margin might you need to consider buying insurance.
