Holiday in Goa

There isn't one reason why millions pour into Goa every year. Mesmerizing beaches, enticing parties, charming ambience, tempting cuisine, Goa stands for endless attractions. Even as the beaches attract sun-worshippers and water sports enthusiasts, the Goan trance parties are an enticement for those who are wild at heart. A distinct Portuguese culture and heritage give Goa a character of its own. The locals too add to the friendliness of the state. It wouldn't be too far fetched to say that Goan cuisine too is an attraction. The spicy gravies and tantalizing seafood delicacies tempt most food lovers.

Reasons to visit Goa can be many, but the major draw is undoubtedly the beaches. The mighty Arabian Sea and long stretches of sands have blessed it with some of the most striking beaches. Calangute Beach has always been the most loved amongst them and is fondly called the Queen of Beaches. White and pristine, it is full of restaurants and stalls and is ever buzzing with crowds. Anjuna Beach is another one which is extremely popular with locals and tourists alike. More than the sands, the beach is better known for its Beach Parties and Wednesday Flea Market. The Miramar Beach has other reasons to be famous. It is placed on the confluence of the Mandovi River and the Sea and is a famous lovers spot. The spot is believed to be a witness to the immortal love-story of Dona, the daughter of a Portuguese Governor and a fisherman. Going more south, the beaches in Goa get quieter and are a paradise for those who love tranquility. Colva Beach is definitely the best known here. With a couple of churches and innumerable shacks in the area it is a hot favorite with tourists. Palolem Beach is also one of the best loved ones, known for dolphin sightings.

Portuguese influence is still clearly visible in the culture of Goa and the rich heritage it has inherited. The colonial rulers have left a good number of churches here and they make a major draw here. The Basilica of Bom Jesus attracts the maximum number of tourists and devotees. It has preserved the mortal remains of its patron Saint, Francis Xavier. Church & Convent of St Francis of Assisi, Chapel of St Catherine, Church of Our Lady of the Rosary and Royal Chapel of St Anthony are other famous churches here.

Foodies have a reason to be delighted when in Goa. Spicy seafood is a simple mantra here. Classy restaurants attached to five star hotels or the roadside shacks, all of them serve irresistible delicacies. Fish, chilly, tamarind and coconut dominate all the dishes that are a part of the Goan cuisine. However, the chefs and cooks here are sensitive to different needs and guests always have an option of getting the delicacies customized. Since non-vegetarian fare is more popular, pure-vegetarians should check out for vegetarian menus before settling down in a restaurant. There are possibilities that restaurants don't serve vegetarian at all. Rest assured of finding an eatery of your choice though.

Goa is a paradise for all. For those who love tranquility, its beaches provide the ultimate calm and serenity and for those who look for entertaining, the beach parties are ultimate fun. Adventure enthusiasts find the water sports irresistible while those like to do nothing can simply soak up the sun. It has something for everyone to look forward to.
