Different Luggage for Different Travel Purposes

Different Luggage for Different Travel Purposes

Travel is an all encompassing term - it means different things to different people at different times. Sometimes it's an eagerly awaited weekend excursion and for others it's an all important business trip. It could be an extended vacation with your family, a wedding out of town you've been invited to, or an adventure holiday with your pals. Whatever be the purpose of your travel, there's a piece of luggage specifically designed for it.

Business Trips

Business trips can vary in length from overnight to several weeks. Many luggage manufacturers make expandable non-rolling and rolling briefcases that can accommodate a change of clothing. Such briefs are ideally suited for overnight business trips as they allow you to carry clothes along with your laptop and other important documents and gear.

Another option you can consider for overnight business trips is a backpack that has enough capacity to fit a pair of clothing. Backpacks are easy and convenient to travel with.

For trips that are longer, you can either choose a smart looking carry-on or a larger wheeled upright depending on the length of your travel. Just make sure your luggage is sophisticated and professional because the last thing you want to do on a business trip is carry a bag that's too flashy. If your profession needs you to dress formal, you should also consider bags that have a detachable or built-in garment sleeve. Such sleeves are very handy in carrying suits.

Weekend Trips

If you're a smart packer, a weekend trip can easily be covered in a small duffle or tote bag with or without wheels - with if you're flying to your destination and without if you're driving there. Your choice of bag will also depend on the type of holiday and weather condition. For example, a beach vacation during summers will require you to carry light clothing, but a trip to a snow cabin or ski lodge will need you to carry multiple layers and hence bigger sized carry-on or checked bags.

Leisure Trips

Mid-size to large rolling luggage (25" to 30") is ideally suited for extended vacations and leisure trips. Such bags have a lot of capacity and come with organizing compartments and dividers for structured packing. These could be hard-sided or soft, two-wheel or four-wheel, uprights or duffles - depending on the nature of your travel and personal preference. At times, you'll need to supplement this luggage with a carry-on tote, duffle or upright.

Weddings/Engagements

Apart from the usual luggage, you'll need to carry garment bags or covers for your gowns and tuxes if you're traveling out of town for a wedding or engagement. While it's convenient to carry a separate garment bag if you're driving, it's best to carry a suitcase that comes with a garment sleeve in case you're flying to avoid checked luggage fee.

Adventure Trips

For adventure trips like camping, hiking, trekking etc., the preferred luggage type is a backpack as it needs minimal handling. Some people also like to travel with duffles as they have enormous capacity for storing your clothes and gear. Many duffles available these days have wheels or can be converted into backpacks. The three factors you should keep in mind while buying luggage specifically for the outdoors are - ruggedness, durability, and weatherproof.
