Comparison Between Pdf And Other Formats

Probably there are numerous formats in which documents could be created, converted or saved but it has been proven by portable document format that it is capable at offering the best in comparison to the rest. For conversion various documents, many people use pdf converter. Here are some of the comparisons given.

Comparison with XPS- This is the most serious alternative to this format that has yet landed the market. More information regarding the XPS could be found over the Net.

With PostScript- Adobe systems had launched this format in the year 1993 and similar is the brain behind PostScript. As a matter of fact, pdf, this format is based on PostScript. Similar instructions are used however in a different way. PostScript is a programming language which as well could be used to write a word processor or chess program but pdf isnt limited in its goals. It is better at describing the layout of a document. So it looks more like a database instead of a programming language. The benefits that you get for using this format rather than PostScript are:

With more effective algorithms, this formatted file tends to be more compressed. Algorithms such as JBIG 2 and JPEG 2000 are not available in PostScript.

It is via Adobe Reader or Acrobat and various other tools that such formatted files could be visualized.

With proper tools, modification in such files could be done easily.

Versatility in this format is in higher degree which is why people like using it more than any other format.

Comparing with HTML- Originally it was geared to describe the structure of a given document instead of its appearance. The appearance would be described by browsers and not the creator. World Wide Web became popular so HTML targeted on the visual aspects more and not much on the content. Consequently, this format has been competing with HTML but the former has been doing well since it is faster than HTML format in terms of uploading and downloading of files.
