Starting Your Career as a Health Insurance Lawyer

Generally, people can get health insurance from a company or organization as part of salary benefits. However, they can also purchase a private health insurance for them.

Health insurance lawyers have a good know how about the legal ins and outs of the health insurance system, as they specialize in insurance law. They assist their clients in health insurance cases usually when conflicts arise between the client and a health insurance provider. Health insurance lawyers help their clients understand health insurance documents and provide them legal advice accordingly.

1. If you want to become a lawyer, you need to start working hard while still in high school. You have to develop certain skills like verbal, speaking and writing skills. Take part in school debating programs, contribute in school's paper and take some public speaking events.

2. After completing your high school, you need to enroll yourself at a college or university to obtain your Bachelor's degree. It is a condition for almost all the law schools to have a bachelor's degree. During your college or university period, keep taking part in extra curricular activities and also in debate or public speaking events.

3. The second important condition to take admission in all the law schools is to pass the LSAT test. It is a five sectional multiple choice test including a writing sample. You have to do really good in the test, if you are willing to take admission in top law school.

4. Choose the law schools of your choice and start preparing your admission file for them. Gather all the required documents before the deadline. Mostly an admission file needs to contain your school records, LSAT scores, letter of recommendations, a resume with a list of extra-curricular activities, admission essays and statements of motivation. Complete the admission files and send them before the deadline.

5. You need to spend three years in a full time program and five years in part-time program. During all these years, you have to keep your focus on your studies rather than anything else. Focus on the courses related to insurance law and spend much of your time analyzing the cases related to health insurance matters.

6. Although, it is hard to get time for a part time job during your law school, you can still look for an internship with a licensed health insurance lawyer to gain some work experience. You can learn a lot during your internship about the working environment and how to deal the cases.

7. You will earn your JD degree after graduating from law school. Get yourself ready to take the bar exam now. It is relatively a tough comprehensive exam that checks your understanding of the federal and state law and also insurance law.

8. Pass the bar exam and get your license. You can now start practicing law as health insurance lawyer. You may find it difficult to find a job in the start due to healthy competition, but keep trying.
