You should learn about chicken pox for proper newborn baby care. What starts as red spotty bumps over the face, soon spreads to scalp, neck and body. These blisters are numerous all across the body and are caused by Herpes Virus. Chickenpox as we know is a highly infectious and contagious disease which similar to many viral infections, is transmitted from person to person when they come in contact with contamination through sneezing, or by touching the fluid oozing from the blisters or using coming in contact through the infected person's clothes or towels.

Once a person comes in contact and is contaminated it takes from 14 to 21 days for the disease to incubate inside the body. During childhood children will contract chickenpox and cope relatively easily then teenagers or adults. The good thing is usually chicken pox

will happen only once in life time as the body develops immunity and thus is not further infected again during their lifetimes.

The full blown infection would take nearly 10-12 days to subside starting from the first emerging signs to drying out of blisters. The treatment of chickenpox includes prescription of drugs like Paracetamol and Crocin to help ease out the fever and general unease of aches and pains. It is good to understand that the person is infectious from the second day till nearly one week and can transmit the disease. Calamine lotion or other lotions help to soothe the itching and once the blisters dry out they seldom leave scars, unless the child scratches too much. Pregnant ladies who have not yet had chickenpox and people with weak immune systems should not come in contact with the persons having the infection. For such a pregnant women there are serious consequences of the illness affecting the developing fetus.
