Seeing All of South Africa

Seeing All of South Africa

Diversity is one of South Africa's defining features; hippos bathe in the Limpopo River whilst penguins waddle their way around the Cape. There are 11 official languages for you to try your tongue at, including English, Afrikaans, Xhosa and Zulu.

South Africa is located at the southern most end of one of the world's largest continents meaning an assortment of terrains is there for the taking.

The deserted Kalahari is a large arid to semi-arid sandy area in Southern Africa which covers much of Botswana and parts of Namibia. The only permanent river, the Okavango, flows from the northwest, forming marshes that are rich in wildlife, fauna and flora. The Kalahari has a number of game reserves and the Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR) is the world's second largest protected area.

Namakwa is a popular place to visit in springtime when spectacular displays of wildflowers can be marvelled at.

Kruger National Park is an incomprehensibly large area that is home to the "Big Five": lions, leopards, elephants, Cape buffaloes and black rhinos. Cheetahs, giraffes, hippos and many species of smaller animals can also be found here, not to mention the huge tracts of acacia, sycamore figs and bushwillows that are intersected by rushing rivers and huge open savannahs.

The park has an extensive network of sealed roads as well as tracks for four wheel drive vehicles and mountain bike and hiking trails for those feeling energetic.

A vivid combination of forest and coast, the Garden Route is one of the most travelled parts of South Africa, taking you from Heidelberg in the southern Cape to Storms River Village on the Eastern Cape border.

The Garden Route is an amalgamation of modern golf courses, ancient forests, secluded artist communities, modern malls, mountain hideaways and beachside retreats, all of which are strung along a magnificent stretch of South African coast.

Covering almost 75% of the peninsula, Table Mountain National Park is another firm favourite with visitors and residents alike. The park stretches from flat-topped Table Mountain to Cape Point and for many people the main attraction is the 1086m-high mountain itself. Hop in a cable car to reach the top and stand back to admire some of the most spectacular view to be found in South Africa.

South Africa's natural beauty and scenic wonders are legendary and are a large reason behind why so many people visit this part of the world every year. Mountains, forests, coasts and deserts are all available for you to explore and enjoy and there are plenty of cities to soak up as well.

Pretoria is the executive capital and Cape Town is the legislative capital whilst Bloemfontein is the judicial capital. Johannesburg is the largest city in South Africa.

Wherever you decide to visit on your South Africa Holidays you can travel with care as you explore protected areas and contribute to social and conservation projects that help the people as well as the environment.
