Weather Affects Insurance Claims

The weather affects a lot of things, including our moods and sociability. We are more likely to be happy and healthy in the summer, and to socialise in the evening with friends and family, rather than retiring to the warmth of our houses and going into hibernation mode. But studies this week have revealed that insurers love the summer months too,. Not only are our houses safer, as there is more daylight, making it harder for thief's to slip into our homes unseen, but there are less storms. The home claims index has revealed that home insurance claims have dropped by nearly two hundred thousand, in comparison to last year, as there were fewer storms. In 2008, there were one hundred and sixty six percent more claims due to storms, that that of this year. The average claim cost for storm damage was greatly reduced too. The cost of a storm dropped from four hundred and sixty pounds in 2008, to a humble ninety two pounds this year. This is great news for UK home insurance customers, as the cost of home insurance claims should drop in direct correlation.

The top five reasons for UK Home Insurance customers to make claims on their policies this year were: water escaping, accidental damage, theft, accidental damage to computers and TVs, and storms.

Make sure that your house is fully covered, as home insurers have reported customers underinsuring their possessions, causing them to not be fully reimbursed in case of accident or emergency to their home.
