Avatarize Yourself with Fun Online Photo-Manipulation Tools

Did you know there are plenty of online tools that will allow you to modify your picture? In fact, you can use them to modify anyone's picture. For example, when James Cameron's Avatar movie was released in theaters, McDonald's provided an online tool that allowed you to upload a photo of a person's face and then through the magic of photo editing tools, make the headshot resemble one of the blue Na'vi aliens.

Here is a picture of the popular English soccer player Wayne Rooney.

Here's how it works. Find the online tool. It's hard to find these days, because the promotion ended. There's a link to it on our website. Follow the simple instructions. Basically, you upload a headshot where the subject is looking straight into the camera. The tool lets you adjust the exact position of where the eyes, nose, corners of the mouth, chin and cheeks are. Then it superimposes the blue Avatar skin texture and yellow eyes onto your photo. It only takes about 30 seconds and bam, there's your picture. You can share it on a social website like Facebook, e-mail it to a friend, or download it.

There are other online tools to let you age yourself, or combine your face with a celebrity face. There are other tools that let you "cartoon" yourself or create a Mad Men avatar. They way many of them work is through photo manipulation program layers. With layers, you can overlay something like color or texture, alter color, or place a background behind somebody. For the Avatarize yourself tool, the program picks up just the facial area, and the rest is a preset body and background. It does let you choose from a couple of different characters and backgrounds.

Avatar ironically is what these little thumbnail representations of yourself are called, because they stand in for you, just like the idea in Cameron's all time best record setting sci fi 3-D movie. An online avatar can be your actual photo, or it can just be a symbol, or anything you want.

So go ahead and have fun and try Avatarizing yourself or your favorite soccer player, sports figure, or celebrity. It's fun.
